Trauma & Recovery

Healing from trauma experienced in adulthood and childhood is helped by both individual and group therapeutic experiences. Reason being is our trauma often occurred in relationships. Therefore, healing and recovering from trauma works best with other healthy individuals and group members who are on a similar path of recovery and healing.

What is trauma and how do I know if that's what I went through?

Trauma is not so much about naming an incident or a pattern of events as traumatic, as it's more about the effect of an event or pattern of events on you. It can leave a lasting impact and result in feelings of sadness, worry, fears and other issues that inhibit you from fully enjoying life.

This could take the form of a long-term pattern in a relationship, or specific, upsetting instances that disrupt the normal routine of your every day life, and lead to problematic issues for you, which is understandable given we have nervous systems that biologically get activated when encountering triggering stimuli, which leads to bodily states of stress. When we have stress hormones running through our body, it affects one in negative ways and is therefore considered to be a result of some kind of trauma, that's manifesting in the present time.

Benefits of Addressing One's Trauma

By engaging in therapeutic processes to address one's trauma, you'll begin to shift from being stuck in significant ways to feeling better due to reduced symptom severity, increased self-esteem, and the development of healthier coping mechanisms. The more one heals from their traumatic life experiences, the more you'll feel  a greater sense of safety in your life, improved emotional regulation, and the ability to form healthier relationships.

How Healing Works

Through therapeutic techniques, individuals and groups can explore and heal through and from the triggering events that brought on the trauma. Because 'the body keeps the score,' there's a strong mind/body connection, so we address what symptoms and issues are arising for you in both your mind and emotions, and bodily. By creating a safe and nurturing space, individuals can integrate past experiences, cultivate self-love, and develop healthier relationship patterns.
