Therapy for Children/Teens
Helping Children Feel Understood, Supported, and Confident
Children experience big emotions, changes, and challenges that they do not always have the words to explain. Therapy can provide a safe, supportive space where children can express themselves, develop coping skills, and learn healthier ways to navigate emotions and relationships.
I provide compassionate, developmentally appropriate therapy for children and families, with an approach that meets each child where they are.
When Therapy May Help
Children and teens may benefit from therapy when they are experiencing:
- Anxiety, worry, or excessive fears
- Big emotions or difficulty regulating feelings
- Sadness, withdrawal, or changes in behavior
- Difficulty adjusting to major life changes
- Family transitions or changes in relationships
- School or peer-related challenges
- Low self-esteem or confidence
- Difficulty expressing emotions or communicating needs
- Stress related to family conflict or other significant experiences
- Challenges with coping, frustration, or emotional regulation
Sometimes a young person may not be able to say, “I’m having a hard time.” Their emotions may instead show up through behavior, withdrawal, irritability, difficulty communicating, or changes in how they interact with others.
An Individualized Therapeutic Approach
Every child and teen is different, and there is no single therapeutic approach that works for everyone. I use a variety of therapeutic modalities and interventions based on the presenting concerns, developmental stage, individual needs, and what will best support the child or teen.
Depending on the client, therapy may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based interventions, emotional regulation skills, play and creative approaches, solution-focused strategies, and other evidence-based techniques. When the parents and I meet, we discuss and determine the best approach for them.
My goal is to create therapy that is both clinically appropriate and meaningful to the individual—not simply apply the same approach to every child.
Working With Parents and Families
Parents and caregivers are an important part of a child's therapeutic process. When appropriate, I work collaboratively with parents to help them better understand their child's needs and support emotional growth outside of therapy.
Therapy may include individual time with the child or teen, parent support, or family involvement depending on the client's needs and treatment goals.
A Safe Place to Grow
My goal is to create a therapeutic environment where children and teens feel heard, respected, and accepted. Together, we can help them develop greater emotional awareness, coping skills, confidence, and flexibility in navigating life's challenges.
Your Child Doesn't Have to Navigate It Alone.
If you're wondering whether therapy may be helpful for your child or teen, I'm happy to discuss your concerns and determine whether we may be a good fit.
