Finding a Space Where You Feel Heard, Seen and Understood

Published on 15 August 2026 at 08:02

Finding a space where you feel genuinely heard, safe, and understood is often the hardest part of beginning therapy. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, working through past trauma, trying to repair a partnership, or hoping to help your child flourish, the heart of meaningful healing and growth lies in the quality of the therapeutic relationship.

My approach is grounded in a client-centered framework. I bring unconditional positive regard, empathy, and deep respect, offering a compassionate, non-judgmental environment where growth can unfold naturally. To best meet your unique needs, I integrate evidence-based, specialized modalities across all stages of life—approaches that align with the natural ways our brains, bodies, and nervous systems work.

Individual Adult Therapy: Healing Trauma & Uncovering Whole-Self Balance

For adults navigating anxiety, life transitions, or lingering trauma, we pair a client-centered foundation with deep, integrative modalities:

Internal Family Systems (IFS). Together, we explore the different “parts” of you—the protective parts that keep you guarded, the overwhelmed parts that carry past wounds, and the core Self (the you that exists apart from burdens) that holds innate wisdom, calm, and capacity for regulation. As these parts are gently unburdened, physical, mental, and emotional energy is freed, helping you feel lighter, more capable, courageous, clear, and confident.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). For those carrying trauma, EMDR supports the brain and nervous system in reprocessing painful memories, reducing the distress tied to past events so you can move forward with a greater sense of freedom and ease.

Couples Therapy: Rebuilding Security, Understanding, and Trust

When relationships hit roadblocks, communication can turn into conflict or distance. In couples therapy, we focus on rebuilding security, understanding, and trust:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): We look beneath surface arguments to identify negative interaction cycles and uncover the core emotional needs driving them, creating emotional safety and secure attachment.

  • IFS for Couples: We explore how each partner’s individual "parts" interact, helping you show up for one another with greater curiosity, compassion, and clarity rather than reactivity.

Teen Therapy: A Space for Autonomy, Safety, and Self-Discovery

Adolescence is a time of rapid change, identity development, and increasing social and emotional pressure. Teens need more than advice—they need to feel heard, seen, and understood.

Using a client-centered approach tailored specifically to adolescents, I offer a private, respectful space where teens can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment or pressure. I meet them where they are and allow them to express themselves at their own pace.

Within a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship, teens can begin to understand their internal world—recognizing what they feel, identifying what they need, strengthening self-esteem, and developing greater emotional awareness and self-regulation. As these capacities grow, teens often become better equipped to make thoughtful choices, respond rather than react impulsively, experience relief from anxiety, depression, and other symptoms of unresolved stress or trauma, and develop a stronger sense of confidence and well-being as they navigate their world.

When teens experience being understood rather than managed, they have the opportunity to build the confidence, autonomy, and clarity they need to navigate relationships, challenges, and the complexities of growing into themselves.

Child Therapy: Play, Connection, and Nervous System Healing

Children process the world differently than adults. When young people experience distress or behavioral changes, traditional talk therapy often isn’t enough.

Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT). Play is a child’s natural language, and toys are their words. Through non‑directive play therapy, children can express feelings, build problem‑solving skills, and process difficult experiences at their own pace.

Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) & Relational Play. Grounded in current brain science, IPNB shows us that the human brain is a social organ shaped by relationships. In the playroom, healing doesn’t come from rigid techniques, but from a deeply attuned, highly relational connection. By offering a safe, co‑regulating presence, we support the child’s nervous system in “rewiring” toward greater integration, emotional resilience, and lasting behavioral change from the inside out.

Parent Support: Child‑Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT)

While individual play therapy offers immense value, parents remain the most important people in a child’s world. CPRT is an evidence‑based treatment model that empowers parents to become more of a secure base and safe haven for their children.

Through structured weekly guidance, parents learn specialized micro‑skills—such as reflective listening and therapeutic limit‑setting—to use at home. By shifting from traditional discipline to intentional connection, CPRT can reduce behavioral challenges, ease stress in the home, and build a lasting foundation of mutual trust and emotional security.

A Faith-Based Perspective (Always Optional)

For clients seeking a faith-integrative approach, I offer a grounded, faith-based perspective that honors spiritual health as part of your overall well-being. However, your values always lead the way—I never impose my personal beliefs on anyone. Whether faith is a central pillar of your life or not a factor at all, you will receive the exact same high standard of respectful, individualized care.
